Letter dated June 6 1918 . . . There are only a few of my original company left . . France sure is a pretty country and we are having some of the most beautiful weather here now . . The wagon roads here are constructed roads . . . All the natives here use water to wash in only as wine seems to be the main thing to drink . ..there sure is some contrast between th...e liquor laws here and in the US regarding the soldier as here we can buy anything. . . I am commencing to learn the value of French money although I haven’t it down pat yet. . . The soldiers are now being issued tobacco with their rations and I drew my first last evening . .common for a soldier to be broke over here and I understood pay days do not come around . . We get the Paris edition of two NY papers here and stars and stripes” . . I am in hopes that conditions will be such when I return home to permit us to be married soon . .
