Antique old wooden shafted J. Crowley driver. Crown stamp is in fancy script. Solid club with a D2 swingweight. Pretty club with much of its original finish remaining. James Crowley (1860 -1937) is documented in Pete Georgiady's great reference work 'The Compendium of British Club Makers.' Face remains with much of its original line scoring intact. Whoever played this club hit it consistently on the sweetspot as that is were the line sco...ring shows some wear. Leading edge with just a few scant play nicks. Beautiful intact ram's horn slip plate remains undamaged. Obviously a club that was not abused and has lasted all these years. There is some finish wear on the crown, nothing major or unsightly. No cracks in head, neck, or shaft. Straight shaft is stiff and almost certainly the original. Shaft stamped 'J. Carstairs, ' who would have shafted and retailed this club. Shaft also stamped 'Made In Scotland.' Total length at 44 inches. Lead backweight with good patina. Also a lead plug in the sole for some extra weight.
