FORT SUMTER, CHARLESTON, SCPyrophoto Co., New York
A nice vintage glass-block paperweight with a picture of Fort Sumter in the harbor of Charleston, South Carolina, considered the first battle of the US Civil War. It measures 4-1/8 inches by 2-5/8 inches and sits about 1 inch thick. It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks; the glass is very clear, without scratches or scuffs, but with a couple of small bubbles that app...ear original. There is hand-applied blue paint behind the image, and it has begun to flake around the bottom edges (see photo of backside).
The color picture is shiny, and I suspect probably dates 1900 to 1920. The back shows that it was made by the Pyrophoto Co., 45 & 47 Crosby St., New York.
