1904 Waltham A. W. W. Co. 18S OF Silveroid Roman Numeral & 13 - 24 Hours RUNS
Item History & Price
Case Condition: This case is BRIGHT and CLEAN and easily rates VERY GOOD PLUS or better cosmetic condition- both the bezel and case back thread down nice and tight and straight too!
Case Metal: T...he inside case back is marked SILVEROID and this is an original Waltham case
Dial Condition: This dial is in AMAZING condition- please see the photos of the dial with the bezel removed- I don’t see any hairlines. The hour and minute hands are also in BEAUTIFUL condition but the blued steel finish is either dirty or a bit worn on the sub second hand. I am going to rate this dial NEAR MINT overall cosmetic condition and I cannot emphasize enough how SELDOM you can say that about a nearly 120 year old porcelain pocketwatch dial! This watch still wears the original beveled glass crystal and there are not many scratches on it.
Movement Type: Waltham A.W.W. Co. 7 Jewels 18 Size, Open Face, pendant wind and set
Working / Non-Working: This watch does wind smoothly and when you go to set the time the stem and crown usually pull out of the watch. When slowly and carefully putting the stem back into the watch you can get it to hit on the time setting position of the detent and the time does set smoothly. This watch has run and kept time “right on” over my 20+ hours timekeeping test of the watch sitting here running on my desk. This watch needs whatever repair is necessary to keep the stem and crown from pulling all the way out of the watch like they do now. Please note that my timekeeping test procedures are very basic and can involve some human error- I am simply setting these old watches against my computer clock and then checking back later on- with no effort to coordinate the seconds hands on either to be precisely in unison at either reading.
Extras: This auction is for the pictured 1904 model year Waltham brand 18 Size Open Face pocketwatch that features a CLEAN and SHINY original Waltham signed Silveroid case and BEAUTIFUL dial that combines roman numeral hour markers and an extra 13-24 hour inner scale for military time!! This watch is in great shape all except for one thing- when you try to set the time the stem and crown pull out of the watch. The watch winds smoothly and I was able to get it to set the time smoothly and the watch has run and kept time RIGHT ON over my 28+ hour timekeeping test of the piece. That’s AWESOME performance for a 7 Jewels gilt Waltham movement! The DIAL on the watch is really a great find- it’s UNUSUAL and in SUPERB condition and rates a legitimate NEAR MINT cosmetic condition- in my 20 years of collecting and trading in old watches I have said that about a 100+ year old porcelain dial only a FEW times!! I have priced this watch to $ELL with a REASONABLE opening bid price and there is NO RESERVE!!!!Payment is due immediately upon purchase.
