Whether the Furniture? Is ample? & modern& whether the house is in good Repair as well as the – of whichwe would be glad to hear some description. Also the Rent demanded, orwhether the lease & - are included in that, if not what theyamount to separately & the form for which the place will be let.Sir William would not be so particular but that he is a good distancefrom the flat? & as he expects to be in London the end of themonths or as early in the next—these – under cover to ColonelNeville — Pall Mall, he will foreword it to Sir William B. SirWilliam Bellingham, 1st Baronet Irish born British politician and theController of Storekeepers Accountsforthe Royal Navy. Bellingham was charged with organizing and procuringprovisionsforthe Vancouver Expedition. Though he never saw the Pacific Ocean, Bellingham Bayandthe city of Bellingham, Washington are named for him.WilliamBellingham was the son of ColonelAlanBellingham (of Castlebellingham) and Alice Montgomery, daughterof Rev. Hans MontgomeryofGrey Abbey House, County Down. Bellingham was one of four siblings(O'Bryen, Thomas, and Alan).Heattended Trinity College, Dublin, graduating in 1778 as a Bachelor ofArts.In1783 he married Hester Francis Cholmondeley(1763-1844), Bellingham moved to Reigate, Surrey, and from 1784 through 1789 heldthe elected office of Member of Parliament in the House of Commons.In1789 he was appointed commissioner for the victualling of the RoyalNavy, on the 21 January 1790 he was appointed Controller ofStorekeepers Accounts a post he held til 1793 when he was succeededby Sir Frederick Rogers.Duringthis time he oversaw the provisioning of George Vancouver'sexpedition along the West Coast of North America. Bellingham Baywasnamed by Vancouver in his honour. Later the city of Bellingham, Washington was also named for him. He was the Receiver of theSixpenny Office, an Admiralty fund that collected sixpence from everyserving sailor's wage for the Greenwich Hospital.Hebecame the private secretary of the Right Honourable William Pitt andwas created a baronet, of Castle Bellingham on 19 April 1796.Hewas also a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and was ReceiverGeneral of the Land and Assessed Taxe of London.Hedied in 1826 and was buried in the family vault at St Mary's Churchof Ireland, Kilsaran Parish, in Castlebellingham.
