These historical character mugs (or Toby mugs) are part of the Character Ware Collection manufactured by Lancaster & Sandland of Dresden Works, who manufactured Sandland Ware pottery in Hanley, Staffordshire, from 1944 until the 1970s.
Glazed hand painted Toby mugs are modeled with the face of William Shakespeare and Sir Francis Drake.
