You are bidding on a 1863 United States 5-cent fractional currency note (2nd Issue).
Pictured on the obverse is George Washington.
The reverse is printed with brown ink.
Fractional currency was used from 1862 to 1876 to relive the chaotic state of affairs caused by hoarding of gold, silver and copper coins. Just prior to the Civil War commerce was at a standstill and these small bills were printed in five different "issues". The small size, limited number produced,... and exceptionally thin paper has resulted in relatively few surviving to the present day.
This 157 year-old note is circulated and worn. Folds, pinholes and minor tears are evident.
