ABOUT:Victorian antique solid Sterling Silver ice tongs by Tiffany & Co. in the English King pattern with chicken claw or talon foot on one side and reticulated spoon bowl on the other. These really make a neat statement on the table and display the fine quality, detail and sturdiness typical of Tiffany, one of the best makers of the time.Would be a beautiful accent to your table or home bar to serve ice, but could also be used to serve appetizers, vegetables, small bites, &n...bsp;desserts, etc. Would also make an excellent and highly collectible gift from the best maker of the time. Date mark indicates year of manufacture to circa 1892 to 1902 - so true Victorian era piece!!The English King pattern began production in 1885 and was designed by Charles Grosjean. Classic and elegant pattern.Nice to find such an old Tiffany piece which will will likely only go up in value with time.The handle has a single initial "S" monogram. I have several other Tiffany pieces so please check out my other listings!MEASUREMENTS:Tongs weigh about 109 grams. They measure about 5 3/4" in length, the diameter of the claw is 1 1/2 inches wide and the reticulated spoon side is 2 1/2 by 2 1/4 inches. They stand about 4 1/2 inches tall off the table to the top of the talon / claw. The handle is about an inch wide at the top of the English King pattern. Sturdy hand feel and eye catching design.CONDITION NOTES:The piece is in estate condition considering age of over 115 years old. It has some surface wear, scuffs and scratches most notably to the reticulated spoon bowl. I can see a lot of utensil marks / nicks on the top of the spoon where the talons tap the spoon bowl so the piece was clearly used. Some deeper utensil scratches on the top of the handle, smooth cartouche on the back, and both sides of the spoon bowl as well, made more notable by the mirrored finish in these areas. A few scuffs to the back where it meets the table. A few stubborn tarnish spots mostly to the hard to polish insides that would likely come out with additional polishing. Has a lovely age appropriate patina with dark background making the claw texture and English King handle designs really stand out. I don't see any damage to the handle designs and the claw / talon looks especially nice with the sharp pointed ends. But as with all my estate pieces, please note that due to age, this is not a mint condition item.HALLMARKS:Correct hallmarks on the inside with the standard Tiffany & Co. maker's mark for that time: "T Tiffany & Co.Sterling Patent 1885".
