Antique leather heart that is decorated with brass. It looks like it might have been part of an old saddle's martingale/breast plate, or perhaps it was part of a harness. To me it reminds me a lot of the leather hearts that were on the martingales / breast plates of Military saddles during the Civil War. Years ago I had the good fortune to come across one and the way that heart was made was very similar to the way that this heart is made. But then again this heart also could h...ave come off of an old harness....anyone's guess at this point. It measures a hair shy of being 4 1/4" across at it's widest width. There are still some remnants of red coloring on the front of the heart. At the very top of the heart is a small hole, but the leather above the hole is ripped and I have tried to show this in picture #12. I am not sure if the heart was originally made with the small hole, or if someone added it some time after. (There are 12 pictures in the ad's picture gallery and the zoom feature is available. Also if you click on the main picture you will enlarge it and then larger images of all of the other pictures can be seen as well.) This old leather heart is being sold "no returns" and I will gladly send to anyone any additional pictures that they might like. I will also be happy to answer any questions. Bidders from the lower 48 states only please and payment would be appreciated with-in 3 days after the auction ends. Thank-you.
