Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:38662136 | Original/Reproduction: Original |
Size: Large |
This listing is for an incredibly rare, potentially one-of-a-kind, original 1984 Prince Purple Rain Tour crew black satin embroidered bomber jacket.
The jacket is made of black satin nylon with a beautiful embroidered design on the back. It was made specifically for a member of Prince’s crew during the first year of his Purple Rain tour in 1984.
I haven’t been able to find another example of this same jacket anywhere. A very similar satin bomber jacket with a different variat...ion of the back embroidery sold at Julien’s Auction on May 18, 2018 (lot 101) for $3, 125. Another jacket, which was a varsity style jacket, from Prince’s Purple Rain Tour sold at Heritage Auctions on November 11, 2017 (lot 89650) for $3, 750.
The jacket is is in incredible original condition, aside from its rusty button snaps. The satin material is in amazing condition for its age with only a couple minor scuffs or flecks of paint (or similar material). The elastic cuffs on the sleeves and at the bottom of the jacket are in excellent condition and retain great elasticity. The jacket retains its original size tag in its pocket, which indicates the jacket is a Large. The tags by the neckline are no longer present. The button snaps are very rusty and I wasn’t able to open them aside from the top one. I didn’t attempt to restore or replace the buttons.
Some measurements of the jacket (in inches):Armpit to armpit measures 24”Armpit to end of cuff measures 20”Shoulder to end of cuff measures 27”Armpit to shoulder measures 11”Neck to bottom of jacket measures 27”
This is a must have piece for any serious Prince collector or vintage clothing collector. You will likely be the only person in the world to have this piece in your collection. If the jacket were smaller, I would have held onto it for my personal collection.
