Own a Piece of History! This slab of marble was from the check-in counter at the luxurious Gibraltar Hotel in Paris, Texas. Each guest would have signed in on this piece of marble. The hotel was built in 1915 by Richard H. Blyth, Edward Buford Norment and B.P. Bailey to accommodate passengers on the St. Louis-Dallas rail line. The building was one of a handful that survived the third largest fire to date following San Francisco and Chicago. [See photo] As seen in my othe...r current listing, during Prohibition the hotel also had a speakeasy in the basement and the door to the speakeasy is also for sale and a picture of it is included here.I purchased both as reclaimed items over a decade ago and have since kept them indoors as conversation pieces. Unfortunately, I was rearranging a few years ago and had laid the slab down on carpet and one of the children in my family walked across it and it cracked. However it did not chip so the two pieces still fit seamlessly together and the crack is only slightly visible to the naked eye, however the camera I used makes it quite obvious.
