Very RARE and Very Collectible!!
IBM Thinkpad 701cs - 486DX2-50 CPU, 16Mb of RAM, 540Mb hard drive running Windows 95 AND a fully functional 14.4 Modem!
Everything pictured is available - External floppy drive (still functions), power supply and a battery THAT STILL HOLDS A CHARGE!
As seen in images this system was running fine last time I powered her up.
As with most of these older laptops things will break without warning and sadly the display hinge b...roke when I was (very carefully!) opening it the other day - The images show the damage.
So now the display is presently not working due to that broken hinge (pictured) as it seems some wires were also damaged - The system still does boot with no error codes and when I wiggled the wires I could still see boot process and WIN95 Desktop.
There are parts available on ebay but I just have too many projects for now so offering this one up.
IBM's ThinkPad 701C shattered subnotebook constraints in 1995 with a full-size keyboard and screen
Once opened, the keyboard on the 701C (nicknamed the Butterfly ) extends past the chassis sides to give you a large, comfortable keyboard.
But when you turn on the unit, what really pops out is the impressive 10.4-inch display. This unit sports a TFT (thin-film transistor) screen. Add IBM's TrackPoint III pointer, and the result was the most ergonomically correct subnotebook of it's time!
Featuring one of the most innovative additions to laptop design, the butterfly keyboard, the IBM ThinkPad 701c was one of the models that set the ThinkPads apart from any other laptop. As you open the lid, a cam on the left screen hinge puts the two-part keyboard into motion. The two halves slide laterally apart and then vertically together, meeting along a diagonal stair-step seam.
