I buy vintage linens at local estate auctions to pass them along to you, and I always look for vintage and antique clothing and accessories.
This is an antique silk lace shawl from the 1900s to 1910s. It is made of silk lace, very soft with a great hand. It is rectangular in shape, measuring 104" long by 22" wide! The pattern of the lace features large flowers, leaves, and plumes; to me the patterns have an Art Nouveau look. The flowers are large en...ough to show beautifully against a background. The edges are scalloped with picot points. This looks like the illustration of Spanish bobbin lace in Pat Earnshaw's book on lace identification. Please use the zoom function to check all the great details..I gave this a gentle hand wash and press, and found the fabric to be sound, soft and strong and not brittle. This is not in perfect condition - there is some damage at the edges, as shown in the last photo. The rest of the lace is in very good condition. This is very dramatic and lovely. I am storing this in my smoke-free home, but I do have a cat who sheds copiously, so be aware if you have allergies. Please contact me for more information or photos.
