Sometimes you find a diamond in the rough. This set turned out to be close to perfect after extensive cleaning. A light oil coating on the exposed steel had turned into what looked like rust but came off like 50 year old cosmoline. Everything is clean, right down to the locking collars and their threads.
The wood case is the equal of the tool set. It is in excellent with only a tiny scattering of barely noticeable scratches and bumps. There is a single prominent scratch on the lid on the edge trim visible in the photo along with some minor finish wear at the corners.
This set is completely functional but it will also take a place of honor in your collection.
