Bought this at a general antique store - not one specializing in Indian items. It is extremely well made and in great condition. No broken stitches or weavers. It has a few light stains, probably from being stored next to something that transmitted color. I do not think they detract.
Really nice "false embroidery" - better than 'real' embroidery - in that the decorative stitches do not go all the way through the object, but are wrapped around the... outside of each stitch as the basket is being made. See the picture (#6) of the inside of the hat. 7" diameter. Appx 4" high
As you know, this style was a common or traditional woman's hat. Most eBay sellers will tell you it is a 'ceremonial' hat but in fact women wore them because they are cute.
