This is one of the toys created to commemorate the bear tied to a tree that Teddy Roosevelt refused to shoot. It's Metal bear on a bicycle. A string fits in the groove in the wheels, and the wear, held steady with the hanging weights, pedals, moving the wheels along the string. A string through the little metal loop behind the front wheel keeps the bear from falling to the floor if he gets off track. Two companies made versions of this bear - A.C. Gilbert around 1907, and B....C. Manufacturing of Battle Creek, Michigan during the 1920's. The later toy was called Hustling Teddy, and I suspect that this bear if on of theirs. I think that the bear is all original except that there's an extra weight. The colors on the tin litho body are bright and in good condition. The wheels are shiny and made of something other than tin, and the outer edges on each side of the groove for the string are bent in places.
