This is, in my opinion, perhaps the most exemplary bag in the long, and very esteemed, Coco Chanel product line. This bag is also perhaps the most sought after by collectors around the globe. This is the very rare, CHANEL Quilted Black Lambskin CC Gold Tone Hardware Heavy Chain Vintage Backpack. My business partner and I hesitated for what has been now years to list this piece for sale. Simply put - it is (in our opinion) an example of the brand's best, the b...rand's rarest, and the brand's most perfectly executed... all of this is amplified by the bag's condition. Note on condition: This bag is in beautiful condition - the wear seen is a general dulling of the leather (the leather is not as deep colored as it once was). The leather has no major flaws, just that general dullness that occurs over time. The brass on the straps has good color, but - too - is not as vibrant as it once was. General creases in the interior (and at the interior of the top flap). Overall, the wear on this bag is minimal - your basic signs of use, but no major flaws, or serious/heavy wear indicators (tears, scrapes, etc.) The leather is without stains, tears, scrapes, etc - the only real sign of wear with the leather being a sight lightening of the dark black complexion. Previously used, but very well kept. We looked for many, many years to find this piece - the perfect piece, and when we finally did, we fell in love with it. So much so that we elected to retire the bag as a showcase piece. Somewhere along the line, seeing this exemplary Chanel rarity behind a squared off glass box - untouched - seemed wrong…like that of the exotic car collector who keeps his most treasured automobiles behind garage doors - never to see the light of day. So, despite initial inclinations never to part with this bag - here it is.. my hope is that it goes to that someone who will wear it, who will treasure it, who will care for it, and who will be able to appreciate all that it is (and will continue to be) for years to come.

Those who know Chanel, will already know all there is to know about this piece. Nevertheless, I enjoy having the chance to talk about it - and so I will give my best attempt to put into words the beauty of the CHANEL Quilted Black Lambskin CC Gold Heavy Chain Vintage Backpack.
This bag employs a plush, luxurious, and meticulously stitched diamond quilted iridescent lambskin leather. The leather on our model is soft, malleable, flexible.. instead of stiff, dry, and hard as many of these vintage bags tend to be. All of the seams within the diamond patterned quilted leather are perfect. No loose stitchings, no fray. The diamond pattern is both simple, and intricate. Chanel could have gone with a blank, canvas look on this bag, but the brilliant design choice to incorporate a pillowed and quilted lambskin leather pattern gives to this backpack an unparalleled sense of depth and texture. We looked closely when seeking a quilted Chanel Black Backpack for one without a heavy worn bottom. This is NO easy task, and was perhaps the most challenging aspect of our search. Yet, we indeed found what we were looking for. As can be seen in the photos, the bottom of this bag is stunning.
This bag employs a rounded flap down cover. At the bottom of this flap is a high vibrancy, deep yellow gold hued “CC” turn lock. I cannot stress enough just how this turn lock glows when juxtaposed to the bag’s deep black lambskin leather complexion. That therein is what makes this bag perfect, in my opinion… the level of contrast, the clashing of colors, that make what is a smaller backpack seem so undeniably grand. Looking at the turn locks on this bag, you will find that the brass is impeccably conditioned. It is without dullness, without tarnish, without chips or cracks or anything of the like. The turn lock on the top flap functions perfectly, smoothly, in the way it did in the first weeks after this bag’s creation. I have always loved the boldness of the turning peg on this turn lock. As well as being aesthetically something to behold, a bold peg means you never have to fumble to open the bag. This bag can be opened on feel alone, which makes it just as functional as it is aesthetically beautiful..
When you undue the turn lock, and flip open the rounded top flap on this backpack - the first thing one notes is the beautifully smooth black leather underside of the top flap. Interior leather is in very good shape, no stains, tears, etc - only some slight crease marks in the soft leather. The back of the turn lock is a thick, deep gold squared plaque, boasting 2 gold screws and the inscription “Chanel: Paris.” You will also see a row of beautiful, deep gold bold eyelets running along the edge of the backpack’s top. Threaded through these eyelets are plush deep black soft leather cords. This bag is meant to be “pulled closed” or “tightened” at the top. If you grab each cord, and pull, you will see the sides of the bag collapse in. In this way (when pulled tight) the sides of the bag do not “bow” out, but rather are hidden neatly under the top flap.
In looking at the front of the backpack, you will notice that there is an additional CC gold tone turn lock at the bag’s middle front point. This turn lock (again impeccably conditioned) opens and closes the front exterior pocket. Undue the quilted pocket flap, and flip it open to reveal yet another deep gold squared plaque, boasting 2 gold screws and the inscription “Chanel: Paris.” The interior of the pocket I truly love - as rather than elect to go with blank canvas leather as a lining, you will see that the interior of the front pocket is (too) a quilted lambkin. That interior pocket is without stains, tears, frays, cracks, scrapes, etc. Same as the leather on the rest of the bag, aside from a few natural creases in what is a soft leather, and a slight reduction in deepness of black hue - It is, truly, in beautiful shape.
Of course, this bag’s gold toned hardware does not end at the turn locks, which brings us to what is my favorite aspect of the piece in whole - the deep black leather threaded deep gold curb chain link dual shoulder straps.
I have never seen a bag (by any luxury designer: Hermes, Prada, Loui Vuitton) that incorporates such an extensive amount of hardware in such a masterful, and aesthetically oriented way. The strap drops on this backpack are an astounding 20" inches in length… the straps are (in essence) entirely hardware. They are composed of deep gold curb chain links that attach seamlessly to the bag’s upper back. Chanel could have left the strap as is, yet - they decided to weave through each and every gold link a deep black leather cord. In doing so, the designer manages to keep with the theme present in the bag itself - a theme of light and dark, a theme of contrast, a theme of clashing scales of color.
Everything about the exterior of this bag is magnificent, yet - is in perhaps the main interior of the bag that makes it superior even to its seemingly identical models.
The interior of this bag is a black leather. This leather is (once again) in great shape - no tears, stains, etc - only slight natural creases in what is a soft leather, and a general slight reduction in the deepness of the black hue. In the large, spacious interior there are no stains, no tears, no flaking away of leather, no cuts - it is (once again) simply something that you CAN NOT find in this model bag in the resale market. The black leather interior makes the “CHANEL” logo (done in gold) at the inside ( as well as the “Made in France” label) almost seem to pop. Here the designer is sticking with that theme of color contrast… the perfect fusion.
At the bottom of this bag, tucked away in the corner, you have the date code authenticator. The numbers along the holographic label have been worn away - though you can see a few digits. And you can see the holographic "CC" logos along the authenticator label. The former owner used a slightly damp cloth once or twice to “dust out” the interior - in doing this, she rubbed the surface of the delicate date code authenticator. Luckily, not enough to wipe away the holographic label in full!
Overall, this description does not do the bag justice… it is (beyond a doubt) the most exquisite Chanel piece I’ve ever held in my hands.. it is a piece that I believe will be relevant for years to come, and I piece that deserves to be made visible.. It is that collectors piece that all of your friends will wish they had, but that none of them will be able to find. It is the best of the brand… and the result of a long and arduous search on my behalf.
At a time when mini backpacks are arguably the most trendy fashion accessory out there - this bag is relevant, and hip - while still managing to be entirely unique…
