For your consideration is an antique checkers set of 24 pieces (12 light and 12 dark). I know them to be antique because of the leather-covered wood checker board/case in which they were contained. The checkers are made of wood, which appears to have been polished to a nice sheen, in colors of tan and dark brown. I am certainly not an expert in wood identification but have tried as best I can to do some research on-line. My best guess is that the light-colored checker...s are maple or boxwood and that the dark-colored checkers are walnut or black walnut. But I am far from certain. I've tried to provide photographs to help in the identification but would welcome the advice of any of you out there who could suggest other ways I might figure out what they're made of. CONDITION: Complete set of 24 wooden (hardwood?) checkers. Lovely patina on both the light and dark colored pieces. Gently used. There is light soil and rubbing and a few chips and nicks. PLEASE MOUSE OVER THE PHOTOGRAPHS FOR CONDITION DETAILS.
