This is a very rare pair of Chuck Taylor Converse Men's Size 8 1/2 Black Model 1-9156 Track Star Athletic Shoes in Mint/ Near Mint Condition in the Original Bird Carton Box manufactured by Bird & Son, Inc., East Walpole, Mass. Inside the box it also states Design Copyright by Converse Rubber Company. The box is in overall decent structural shape with its only visible blemish being the owner's name being handwritten where there appears to have been a tape tear, and some denting/scra...ping as you might expect from its many years of existence. See pics for a better look. The original sticker indicates it was sold at the iconic Vincent Sports Shop in Simsbury, CT for $7.95. The original tag on the right shoe indicates the original price was $10.00 marked down to $7.95. Converse was located in Massachusetts as well, and thus these shoes are marked as being Made in U.S.A. Converse and Chuck Taylor were also famous for their All Star Model shoe, sneaker(I believe for Basketball). I knew the original owner, and my best guess is he purchased these in the very early 1960's. As for condition, these shoes appear to have never been worn (at least not outside, the bottoms are close to perfect) beyond possibly trying them on (maybe why only one is laced). The white rubber does show slight age and variation, most likely due to its age and handling at the time. For some reason the white rubber on the front top of each shoe does show some dirt and even a very light bluish spot on the right shoe. The laces on the right shoe also look a bit more used than the right one, which makes me wonder if it was perhaps the one used for trying on in the store. I mention all this, because as a specific collector myself, I know experienced collectors of these shoes will have a keener eye when looking at them than I do. That said, please ask any and all questions, My main goal is to have you make as educated a purchase as possible and one that you are very happy with.
