Original Description:
Antique 17th Century Walnut Veneered Box with pine carcass. Original brass strapping and escutcheon / lock and carrying handle. Has suffered ravages of time, damage to the rear of box where the hinge has been forced, strip of veneer damaged at rear of box , minor old wood worm holes but does not affect stability of box, the key may not be original but it does open the lock with a bit of a fiddle. Slight split to veneer at front.Nonetheless having pointed out the minus points the box ha...s lots of plus points, it has its original hinges, lock and superb carrying handle it being of iron and brass, the box is sound and stable. Requires some TLC and sympathetic restoration. Not bad for a box over 300 years old. Quite a rare item and I have placed a realistic start price. Please study photographs carefully as they form a part of the description and ascertain for yourself condition.Measurements are width 9 inches, 5.5 inches deep , just under 6 inches high.Please take a look at my other period items I have listed.
