ITEM DESCRIPTIONItem DescriptionUp for your consideration is a very rare original Broadway theatrical poster for "The Yellow Ticket" starring John Barrymore and Florence Reed (before they were stars). The play was short-lived, but it was later made into several movies. The woman depicted is a young Jewish girl with a tear in her eye, in the Art Nouveau style. The lithograph was printed in 1914 by H.C. Miner Litho Company, and this is the only example of this poster I have ever seen, it is perhaps the only one left. The poster is large, measuring 27.75 x 41.75 (exposed), and the outer dimensions of the frame are 29.5" x 44". The frame and plexiglass are modern, and the piece was archivally framed for long term preservation. The frame and plexiglass are in "new" condition.The poster has various losses, creases, minor stains, and a restoration to one lower corner. Also, a large patch (about 8" x 3") of poster is missing at the bottom. I did my best to show all of this so you can make an educated opinion. Overall, I believe the poster presents very well. Anna Mirrel, a young Jewish girl in Czarist Russia, is forced to pretend to be a prostitute to obtain a prostitute's passport (a "yellow ticket") in order to visit her father, whom she believes to be ill. When she arrives in St. Petersburg, she learns that her father has been killed. She encounters a young journalist and tells him of the crimes the state perpetrates against its citizens. The play starred John Barrymore and Florence Reed.About John Barrymore: Despite the film work and the higher fees he earned from it, Barrymore continued to seek stage work, and in January 1914 he played the lead in The Yellow Ticket at New York's Eltinge Theatre. The role marked a departure from the light comedy of his previous performances, a result of Sheldon urging him to turn towards more dramatic parts.
