I love Bretbys elegant line of Pottery produced in the late Victorian into the Edwardian era. It has a fresh unpretentious feel whilst embracing the decorative style of the times in its own understated elegant way. Embodying much of the hand made revolt against mechanisation of decorative arts production- Bretby always sits nicely among Art and Craft era objects, and the hand thrown quality of the jug is I think left deliberating obvious in its slightly undulating surface.Condition is... good- I note one spot along the upper rim where the uniform surface crazing just runs a little deeper into the ware. That said it doesn’t penetrate through to the inside wall of the pottery so strictly speaking still crazing and not a crack.Indeed the jug presents in good condition as shown with no chipping or cracks.Impressed Bretby Half sun mark to base.The piece stands a proud 32cm and weighs 1.25 Kilos.
