Exquisite rare antique handpainted Japanese Satsuma decorative vase.Circa early 1800s.This is a fantastic littlevase decorated with the old Satsuma gold brocade (金錦手 Kin Nishikide) design. It has intricate hand painted details you need a magnifyingglass to appreciate it.The small bottle vase has twochildren moulded on the sides. The are dressed in traditional costumes handpainted in minute floral and brocade detail. Note the finely crafted smallhands.The neck is painted in gold b...rocadeand has a chrysanthemum design on one side and a cross design on the oppositeside.The bottom of the vase ispainted with an extremely complicated samurai battle scene.With a magnifying glass youcan see one side has at least four samurais in gold armour and four war horses.One samurai is holding a spear and appeared to be attacking another samurai. Oneof the horses looks like it has fallen to the ground.On the other side there arefive samurais in armour in battle and at least four war horses. Each holdingdifferent weapon to the first scene.The background on both scenesare rich with mansions, boats, waves and tall palm trees.This is really a work of arton a vase.The condition is very good. Oldrepair on one of the child’s head.Stamp of old Satsuma 萨摩hand written on the base. The mark Dai Nippon (大日本) is recognised as Meiji Period (1688-1704) Satsumaware. This is however a pre-Meiji Satsuma with the base made of bisque ceramic.Please refer to photographson general condition.Height: 12 cmWeight: 160 grams'Most of my collection isone of a kind.
