Item: Fine1912 English Antique Sterling Silver Apostle Spoon Joseph Rogers Sheffield . A very nice example of an EnglishSterling Silver Apostle Spoon made by Joseph Rogers of Sheffield. The spoon has a full set of Englishsterling Silver hallmarks and has a highly polished silver finish in itsentirety and has the benefit of beingun-monogrammed and free from personalisation. To the top we see the Apostle St Peter standing upon a plinth. The apostle spoon is made of a nice qualitysilver finishing. For themost part, these spoons were made individually for wealthy grandparents of the time, who would buy one spoonrepresenting a babies "apostle" and would be their Christeningpresent. This spoon would be used only by that person and it would be kept forlife. The phrase "to be bornwith a silver spoon" stems from this tradition. I have seen that people are nowengraving names onto the back of the spoon for newborn, Christenings andCommunion Presents, this examplehas NO engravings or monograms. Would make a superb gift.
