Lovely Vintage Polia Pillin Tray, Woman with Rooster and Bird, c. 1960s–70s
This is a decorative ceramic tray by Polia Pillin. It's in a freeform, almost triangular, form with a curved raised rim running around the exterior.
The decoration is on a rich blue-green ground, polychromed in whites, darker blue-greens and blacks. It features a painted figure of a woman,... with a rooster and a sweet little bird standing on the fingers of her left hand. The figures are polychromed and shaded in whites and salmons/reds.
It displays well in a plate holder--as shown--or as a wall hanging (in a mount or a plate hanger).
This is in very good condition, with typical overall crazing in the overglaze, and some professional restoration to the rim. There is a 1/8" rough spot on the surface lower left (it looks like it was caused by a plate hanger).
Signed "Pillin" in black slip on the back underglaze, with the usual three stilt pulls.
Dimensions: 6-3/4" high x 8-1/2" wide x 1" deep.
Note: The white hotspots and reflections in the photos are from the lights. (Pillin pottery is difficult to photograph, for me at least.)
