Up for sale we offer a beautiful two piece cheese / butter dish by Franz Anton Mehlem of Bonn Germany. This Royal Bonn Covered Cheese Dish is a rare piece to come by. Most of these were used daily and have damage, or just have been broken over the years. The Royal Bonn ones have the spectacular hand painted flower work that is not seen on many of the other Cheese Dishes of the day.
The work beautifully depicts bouquets of flowers and branches all highlighted with gold. The p...late is in good condition with the green Mehlam backstamp on the back as pictured. The interior of the wedge piece is marked & numbered. No chips cracks hairlines or repaird. There is age appropriate wear as pictured and some edge areas of gold paint loss on top of the wedge as pictured. There may be some age crazing as well. Overall the Cheese Dish is quite a beauty and no crazing is seen. The Dish measures 6 3/4" tall by 8 3/4" down each side. Please check out our pictures for a better visual description.
