This is a very scarce to rare Japanese award given to the President / Chairman of the Friends of the Military Association during or before WW2. The original box has the 3 kanji in red 軍友 會 "GUNYU KAI" (friends of military association) then 會長章 " KAICHO SHO" (Chairman/President Award). The medal has the kanji: 軍友 GUN YU (friends of military) over 聨合 RENGO (union) over 會...長 KAICHO (chairman). 軍友 會長 聨合 (CHAIRMAN/PRESIDENT OF FRIENDS OF MILITARY UNION). This medal is silver with gold and has both the Army Star and Navy Anchor. Medal is similar in style to the Army Commanders Badge as pictured in Peterson's ORDERS AND MEDALS OF JAPAN AND ASSOCIATED STATES page 83 - I have not found this medal in any ref book nor thru the internet. I have no clue as to how many were awarded but doubt few are around. This medal came out of Japan when I was stationed there in the 60's. A nice display badge for that WW II Japanese medals collection.
