THE CASE
This is an very early 18th Century German Hood Clock in almost mint and original condition. Theclock has a 24 hour bell striking movement which is in full working orderkeeping time and striking as it should. The lovely oak case has an absolutely stunningpatina which can only be produced over time, which gives an amazing matured look. Tothe front it has a an original elm wood pan...el which has been hollowed out on the inside to allow for the movement. .
The case is in excellent condition, and as the images show, the oak panels have been constructed together with original wooden pegs/pins. The condition of the clock case is fine and of the high quality, there are signs of minor age discrepancies, a few alterations to the interior to hold the movement and the glass of the door has been changed over time. But only what you would expect to see on a clock which aged more than 250 years old!
The clock is a fantastic feature whether displayed in a modern or antique/classic designed environment. THE DIAL The clock features its original pewter dial with black roman numerals andoriginal hand sawn iron hands (painted gold) which flanked by two original pewter angels on an original painted elm panel. The pewter dial and angels are in excellent condition for their age and very clean
THE MOVEMENT The movement is of high quality being a 24 hour bell striking movement with its original pendulum. The iron and brass movement isin full working order keeping time and striking the original bronze bell exactly when it should and comes with the original full brass jacket lead weight. The parts of the clock all belong together as the particularclock parts have all been stamped and assembled with the no I as indicated on the images. And although the Original bronze cast bell has a hole in it, it strikes beautifully!
