As written in anotherlisting, I'm using the Pandemic's enforced isolation to go throughall my stuff, cull my surplus, and fill the gaps...
An 'eternity' ago, I builtGuillow's DC-28 Hurricane and DC-27 Zero. (I don't claim that they'flew' as much as staggered drunkenly around for a few feet beforecrashing...!)
Not long ago, this Stuka, old and from the same series, showed up as part of an estate sale ourl...ocal hobby shop owner acquired.
I'm not a kit collectorexcept by happenstance. I'll scratch-build this model from my balsastash, off photocopied plans, for nostalgia's sake. This kit – inthe condition you see it here, namely AS-IS – is offered to youdeliberate collectors. Guillow still endures and still produces manyof its old kits...but not this series. Too bad...but if you wantone, you'll have to settle for odd appearances like this one.
Box is aged, shopworn, abit bent up; end flaps coming loose. Note the misprint on the typeshown on the box face...but the end flaps list correctly that it's a'JUNKERS JU-87 STUKA'...Kit DC-35...and in underlined red in theupper right-hand corner, 25. Don't you wish kits were stillpriced like that? – My kits were acquired in 1952 or so...
About 12” span, about10” OAL. The only plastic part – only hardware – is the propassembly, with nose plug and drive shaft already assembled. Prop is4” diameter and embossed with a stylized 'K' on each blade front. The wheels are supposed to be made from 2 pairs of die-cut balsadisks, with straight-pin axles.
Plan sheet is yellowed andthe ends are chipped in places, but are perfectly legible. There wasneither rubber nor tissue in the box, when I got it, but I've put insome from my own stashes.
One end of one die-cutsheet is ragged, with end bits missing, and two loose more-or-lesstriangles. But these seem to be just spacers between the die-cutwing ribs...no parts are missing. I guess for its time, thedie-cutting isn't too bad, nor the density of the balsa sheets...isthat 'faint praise' enough? You Free Flight builders would make newparts with a sharp knife, from good sheet...
So: any nostalgiccollectors interested? Thanks!
