I am selling a small group of rare items for my elderly aunt, who has collected them for over forty years. She has written the following description, and will ship sold items from her residence.
This is a beautiful and very rare glass newel post top which was custom made with a sterling collar and base. The silver collar is hallmarked and is enhanced by a column of shiny black glass connecting it to the glass top. The base screw (just under 1” long) has been tested and is iron.... The country of origin of this piece is unknown - probably either French or Italian.
Many times the colors in the glass (in this case wine and green) indicated the color scheme of the interior of the master room at the head of the staircase.
This would be a great focal point for your stairs and certainly a conversation piece. It could also be used in a collection on a display block. The newel post measures about 5 inches from the silver base to the round glass dome top. It is from a smoke free home.
