LOT OF 1 VINTAGE COMIC BOOK: WITCHES TALES #25 CGC 4.5 With Cream To Off-White Pages And Exceptional Gloss. Horror-Master Howard Nostrand Contributed The All-Time Classic Gore Cover: It Appears The Hunchbacked Bell-Ringer Thought It Best To Decapitate Some Poor Dude To Repair The Damaged Church Bell. Most Severed Head Covers, Even During The Untamed Era Before The Implementation Of The Comics Code Au...thority, Are Rather Sanitized And Downright Tame Compared To This Nauseating Depiction, With Blood And Tendons And Vessels Flopping Grotesquely As Quasimodo Leers On With Demented Glee. This Issue Has The Lead Story "The Ticket", By Manny Stallman. It's Followed By "Ali Barber" By Bob Powell. Next Up Is "What's Happening At 8:30pm" By Cover Artist Howard Nostrand, Plus The Finale, "Monopoly", Drawn By The Underrated Stallman. This Title Was The Very First And Longest-Running Horror Title From Harvey Comics, And It's Known For Explicit Shock And Gore Including Bondage, Torture, And Extreme Violence, And Indeed This One Has It's Share Of Graphic Content. This Whole Series Is Laden With Great Covers And Talented Artists, And This Late Number Has A Coveted Classic Decapitation Cover And Is One Of The Toughies, So Don't Take This Chance To Score A Pretty Example Lightly, Or You May End Up Settling For A Pesky Replica Facsimile Instead. As Is The Norm For The Harvey Comics Horror Output Of The Period, This Issue Contains Salacious Content, Perfect For Fans Of Monsters And Other Ghouls, Vampires, Zombies, And Strange Undead Creatures. The Pre-Code Horror Craze Was In Full Swing So It's Got The Ubiquitous Lurid Content Including Gore And Good Girl Art And Graphic Violence And Supernatural Themes. THIS SOUGHT AFTER COMIC WITH "WEIRD YARNS OF UNSEEN TERRORS" HAD AN ORIGINAL PRICE OF TEN CENTS. The Horror And Supernatural Themes Never Go Out Of Style! This hails from a dark, dry, pet-free, climate-controlled environment. It has been part of my own horror collection for 21 years, since I obtained it from an original owner collection out of New York, and I've always secured it fastidiously in a cool dark safe-deposit box within an archival Mylar for safe long-term preservation. Recently I have commenced submitting my personal pre-code issues to CGC, and this one just came back from encapsulation, --they were plenty harsh on it, frankly it has a high-grade look from the front, which is what really counts! See the pictures, it is amazing, much nicer than one would expect for a "4.5", (and I can attest it elicited gasps and wide eyes each time I showed if off to somebody over the the last couple decades, as most folks assumed it was a Circle-8 copy as it has that 'fresh look' at arm's length and I bought lots of fifties Harvey horror comics from that pedigree back thirty years ago when it surfaced here in Arizona.) Although it's approaching seventy years old, it retains an amazing amount of luster and the eye appeal is phenomenal for the curiously strict grade. Crucial issue for any collector of classic pre-code horror comics.
