This Stanley block plane lever cap is in Excellent condition with 95% of the original red paint present. There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs. There is minimal wear - primarily where the cap comes into contact with the crossbar on the plane's body, as well as some of the nickel is worn on the head of the thumb screw, which is also included. It functions exactly as it was designed... with no issues. Stanley began painting these red in 1941 until the end of production in 1962. Prior to this, they were Japanned black. This will fit the older and later versions. This one was donated from a No. 101 but will also fit the No. 100, No. 100 1/2, No. 101, and No. 101 1/2

ALL inventory is stored in an environment where climate and humidity are controlled to ensure each item is received in the same condition in which it is presented in the listing. Unless otherwise noted in the listing, photos are of the exact item you will receive. Every single item is listed and packaged by myself and I take pride in carefully packaging all items, regardless of purchase amount. When applicable, I try to grade the condition of every tool and part objectively using John Walter's grading system from his "Antique & Collectible Stanley Tools" price guide as described below. This is not necessarily an industry standard for grading, and grading vocabulary will vary from collector to collector since there is some subjectivity involved (i.e. "mint" vs. "near mint"). For these reasons, I will also try to list a description of these grades in each listing in order to clarify the grade given to each item. Please refer to the details below and read the "condition" portion of this listing for the condition grading assigned to this item.
MINT: 100% of original finish remaining. No signs of wear or rust - probably never used. No problems or issues.
EXCELLENT: 95-99% of original finish remaining. Very slight wear with no rust. No problems or issues.
GOOD PLUS: 85-95% of original finish remaining. Used but well maintained. Scuffs, light wear, very little rust.
GOOD: 65-85% of original finish remaining. Moderate wear and/or rust. Minor deficiencies - owner's initials, nicks, etc.
GOOD MINUS: 50-65% of original finish remaining. Has seen hard use, but remains serviceable. Scratches, nicks, dents, cracks, chips, improper replacement parts.
FAIR: 25-50% of original finish remaining. Heavy wear and rust. Some parts are broken, missing, or improper - serious flaws.
POOR: 0-25% of original finish remaining. Pitted, abused, heavily worn. Serious damage and missing major parts.
