ANTIQUE 2 - KEYED SERPENT BY JOHN KÖHLER, LONDON, 18TH - 19TH CENTURY

This rare 2-keyed serpent is made by John Köhler, brass instrument maker of German origin, active in London between late 18th and early 19th century. As usual it's made of wood, black leather and brass, with ivory mouthpiece and rings on the finger holes (4/6 are missing). One key is broken (see photo), one is missing, and the instrument has been clumsily repaired in the past with different materials. Anyway, as you can see form the attached CAT (Computed Axial Tomography, allowing to... see below the leather surface), there is no serious damage, so it would not be difficult to remove the "repair" stuff and do a real restoration. The internal diameter is from 12 to 18, 2 mm in the brass crook, from 24, 5 to 87 mm in the wooden body.
