United States Navy Aviation Radioman 3rd class Norman D. Tracy (Service #600-71-25) was born August 2nd 1924 in New York. Norman attended and graduated from North Highschool, Port Crane, New York. Norman enlisted in the Navy in the summer of 1942, he received his basic training at the Naval Training Station, Newport, Rhode Island. He then attended Naval Aviation Radio School where he completes his advanced training. Aviation Radioman Tracy was stationed at Army Air Field, Midland, Texas. Serving with Naval Bombing Squadron II (VB-2), one of the Navy's oldest dive bomber squadrons. On November 3rd 1943 ARM Tracy was flying with his Aviator in a Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber on a training mission when the bomber crashed 18 miles outside of Odessa, Texas. United States Navy Aviation Radioman 3rd class Norman D. Tracy perished that November 3rd, 1943. Himself and hundreds of other unsung hero sailors & soldiers paid the ultimate price before ever setting foot on enemy soil. ARM Tracy’s Service was held at the Port Crane Community Baptist Church. He is buried at the Porte Crane Cemetery, Brooke County, New York. I am including 9 printed research documents & photos from the Ancestry National archive files, Find a Grave, Texas Death Certificate, & newspaper articles.
