OBJECT// Antique Chinese museum quality rare gilt bronze Buddha, this marvellous piece of the finest quality depicts a seated teaching Lama, often these are referred to as portrait buddhas of important spiritual individuals, truly the best piece i think i have sold, his hands are superbly refined, the face is superbly chiselled with a serene expression of reflection or contemplation, the piece is completely adorned with intricate details engraved everywhere one looks, his robes are superbly engraved with floral motifs as is his carpet he sits upon. The buddha has the most rich lemon mercury gold gilt surface, perfect gilt remaining, we see much of the original white/black colour pigment remaining to his face and arms, the piece has its original base plate finely engraved with a four pointed Vajra (Thunder Bolt) It weighs a very heavy 1412 grams, this is a very fine and important Buddhist spiritual object, dating from the 19th century, Qing Dynasty object, genuine antique, superb colour and patina, serious collectors object.
