The family found it in the attic of Grandad's home (along with tons of treasures, but this was one of the few I was able to buy).
They said he loved working with wood, they assumed he made it for one of his daughter's (their aunts) but no one really knew ( were it me and my family, it would be a legacy keepsake, but to each their own).
They guessed if Gramps made it for one of their aunts, then probably made late 50s to early 60's.
Nothing... I see on it, rules out the estimated age. I will defer to an informed collecter, as I know a lot about quite a few categories of antiques, but not dolls, etc. I just had a hunch the hand painted fabric back, gave this piece some value, so I bought it.
No screws used, just a few nails for the pivot axles in the tray that lifts and rises.
Commercially produced dowels were used, so this chair is not incredibly old beyond the family's "guestimates."
The really interesting aspect of this antique doll highchair is the hand painted fabric back.
After I bought this, I googled, and while not finding a match, I found a few very similar, as if this was from a pattern you could purchase, or maybe a kit, but while similar, even with a fabric back, not identical. One I saw, from an uniformed seller incorrectly identified the painted fabric, as "leather." It is not leather.
Whatever the date or origins, it sure seems like a nice piece in very good condition.
You can see wear and thinning in the fabric back, a 1/4 inch chunk missing on the back, but nicely preserved for kid's toy from 60 or 70 years ago; it is in really nice condition.
The pictures are the condition and the sale is "as is."
