To be fair to everyone who showed interest last week, I have relisted the board here with the same key parameters of the original auction: no reserve, no Buy It Now, and a $.99 starting bid. All that has changed is I have added more information.
I bought the skateboard from a landmark Canadian skate shop called Cal Streets. I’m fairly certain it was in 1985, with an outside chance it was 1986. Cal Streets had a few locations in Vancouver over the years but I got it from the original store known as “Vacuum Land Cal Streets” at 11 Lonsdale in North Vancouver. The store was nicknamed that because it was Cal Streets’ original store and they first opened it up with the previous business’ signs still up. They have a great archival website (http://www.calstreets.com/calstreets/11-lonsdale-skateshop-nvan/11-lonsdale/) with lots of 1980’s photos of their shops. Amazingly within this archive I found a photo (see last pic above) with my exact board for sale on the wall in 1985! I remember looking at the Hammerhead hanging in this spot on the wall and wanting to buy it for many weeks until I finally eventually did. I wish I could remember more details about the purchase in terms of exact date and price, and I can’t quite see what the price tag says on the board in the photo.
This past week I also unearthed some family photos that my parents took of me with my new board that clearly show the logo and grip tape design that I did. I believe these photos to most likely be in the summer of 1985. Also included here is a selfie of me now in the same pose with my board for “provenance” as they say.
I considered removing all of the stickers, rails, and hardware etc to sell the board because I believe it will show nicely when stripped down but in the end I decided to leave it in its original “time capsule” state and let the new owner decide how they want to proceed.
Included in this auction:
1) Vintage 1985 “Spike” Hosoi Hammerhead board: generally in good condition. Various 80's stickers. At one point there was a nose guard that is now missing so there are some mounting holes from that. Blue and purple grip tape "web" type design on top. In an email to me, someone referred to this particular rare board as the “Spike” because it has the “SKTBRDS” text but no “HAMMERHEAD” written across the spike.
2) Vintage original blue Tracker trucks on front and back. Front truck has minimal scraping as shown in photo. Rear truck appears to be in near mint condition due to protective covers.
3) Vintage Vision Blurr wheels marked 90a and 60-45. Two are red and two are blue, all seem to have lots of life left on them.
Reason for selling: I have been a full time professional performing musician for the past 25+ years. Due to the Covid pandemic all of my gigs/income are completely gone indefinitely so this amazing skateboard has now become an important financial lifeline for me. It is difficult to sell this piece of my childhood during this time so it is important to me that the winning bidder works with me to have a positive transaction, I would like this skateboard to go to someone who will truly appreciate it.
Item is located in Canada, so the BUYER is responsible for any fees that might be charged by customs in country of destination. Merchandise will be shipped 1-2 days after receipt of payment. Payment is expected within 3 days of purchase. There is no handling fee but I have added $50 for insurance now that I have a general idea of what this board will sell for. If the shipping and insurance ends up cheaper than the estimates here then I will gladly refund any over payment.
On 02-Dec-20 at 14:07:02 EST, seller added the following information:Here is an update to answer some of the questions I have received.
The board is not warped in any way and all 4 wheels sit flat on the ground. The wheels all spin perfectly without any friction or resistance. The board is totally ridable in it’s current state. There are no stress cracks on the board. The skateboard had been kept inside a heated house since it’s purchase in 1985.
