An Incredible , Extremely Rare, Somerset County , Western Pennsylvania, Soap Hollow , Untouched , Paint Decorated Folk Art Blanket Chest, In 100% Original Overall Condition. This is an Exceptional Find, It is my 32nd Piece of Pennsylvania German , Soap Hollow Hand Made Furniture that I have Owned. I have Owned, Bought and Collected More of these Extremely Rare Pieces than Any Other Collector. There are about 200 Pieces Known to Exist. I am Not and Expert on Soap Hollow Furniture,... Soap Hollow is actually Located in Somerset County , of Western Pennsylvania , and it got it's Name from the Women there that made the Finest Soap That you could Hope to Buy. There were also about 7 of the Finest Precision Furniture Makers , that Produced some of the Finest Paint Decorated Furniture in the Land. John Sala was Considered, to be the Finest , and he was the Patriarch of the Group. The Stunning Example is No Exception. it Comes to you , with NO Apologies, and it is in ready to Display And Use. This is an Rare Example of a " Six Board " Blanket Chest, Meaning that the Top and Bottom , and the Four Sides are all one Piece of Poplar Wood, The Paint Decoration includes the Date " 1857" , and the Initials of the Person it was made for " K T ", some Heart/s , Tulips and Flowers . There are 2 Birds seen on the Front Bracket Feet, and a Horse and Rider seen on the Lower Center of the Front Panel. The Lock, Keeper , and Hinges are all Original to he Blanket Chest, and it has NO restorations of any Kind, Ever !!! The Paint Colors are the Very Special Red, and the Trim is Carbon Black. The Hand Dovetails are as fine as a Human Hand can make them. The Bracket Feet are also Finely Hand Dovetailed. It measures 45 1/2" across the Front x 25 3/4" high x 18 3/4" front to back. It has an Estimated Shop or Show Value of between 2, 800.00 and 3, 400.00 . I'm selling it with NO reserve , and only One Penny to start.
