Brand: Amperite
Original Description:
Offering a very rare 1930's-40's Amperite Model SR80 Velocity Ribbon Microphone. It's the biggest of all the Amperite models, and at that time this was one of the finest velocity ribbons on the market, a beautiful brute of a microphone (over 4 pounds) with a hefty over-engineered bronze and steel casing. As well as a collector's dream, it makes for an awesome studio mic.The Amperite company was founded in New York in 1922 and started out producing components for tube-operated... radio sets, and controlling devices. But by the end of the 30's they also had a line of microphones advertised as 'Studio microphones at P.A. prices'. And, since Amperite was the main microphone producing company of New York, they were used in many of the clubs, ballrooms, and studios of the Big Band era, and became the favorite for many vocalists in New York in the late 30's and 40's, like Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra. This Model SR80 has been thoroughly cleaned and has had some mild physical restoration. (Was found in storage for the past 50 years so didn't see a lot of use!) It sounds amazing with a new ribbon motor producing ribbon-quality fidelity and strong output. Looks amazing too with a solid bronze casing and that cool vintage machine-age vibe. It has the original brass mounting yoke and thumb-screw which holds the pivot angle firmly in place, plus the intact clearly-stamped brass Amperite maker's badge. This mic has the old pipe stand thread fitting with an adapter that allows it to be threaded onto any standard desk stand, floor stand, or overhead boom. The desk stand shown is included, and comes wired to a new 4 foot cable with male XLR plug. ** Always safe secure packaging and fast fair shipping.
