WELL, I'VE LOOKED FORWARD TO LISTING ONE OF THESE EXTREMELY RARE JOHN LENNON AND YOKO ONO ULTRA STORE DISPLAYS SINCE I HEARD THEY WERE MADE BACK IN 1980! INDEED, THIS IS A FANTASTIC LOOKING 39" TALL PROMOTIONAL IN-STORE 'STANDEE' STAND-UP DISPLAY FOR THE CLASSIC JOHN LENNON / YOKO ' DOUBLE FANTASY SMASH HIT ALBUM BACK IN 1980! THIS STANDEE WAS NEVER ISSUED AS YOKO ONO ORDERED THEM ALL DESTROYED AFTER HER REVIEW OF THE FINAL PRODUCT!! (details below...) (Note: The photographer on this i...tem was Kishin Shinoyama, a personal friend of Yoko's.) THIS IS TRULY ONE OF THE RAREST IN-STORE PROMOTIONAL ITEMS EVER MADE RELATED TO THE BEATLES OR SOLO BEATLES! THIS IS THE 39" X 26.5" IN-STORE ' STANDEE ' STAND UP EASEL BACKED DISPLAY ISSUED FOR THE PROMOTION OF JOHN LENNON AND YOKO ONO'S CLASSIC FALL 1980 " DOUBLE FANTASY " ALBUM! THIS ITEM WAS OFFICIALLY ORDERED BY GEFFEN RECORDS OF THE U.S.A AND WAS INTENDED FOR NATIONAL DISTRIBUTION AROUND THE COUNTRY. AFTER ONLY A SMALL RUN OF ABOUT 20 TOTAL UNITS, THE ITEM WAS SENT TO YOKO ONO FOR FINAL REVIEW AND APPROVAL. QUITE SIMPLY, SHE DID NOT APPROVE THE ITEM AND FIRMLY ORDERED IT DESTROYED. WHY? REPORTEDLY, SHE DID NOT LIKE THE WAY THE STANDEE WAS CUT AT THE TOP OF HER HEAD WHICH TO HER, APPEARED TO LOOK LIKE A HORN PROTRUDING FROM HER HEAD! SO, THE ORDER WAS ISSUED TO DESTROY ALL OF THE STANDEES MADE AND THEY WERE NEVER OFFICIALLY DISTRIBUTED. FORTUNATELY FOR US COLLECTORS, ONE OF THE WARNER BROS, EMPLOYEES HELPED HIMSELF TO ABOUT 8 OR 10 TOTAL OF THESE ITEMS AND THE REST WERE INDEED DESTROYED. THESE RARELY EVER COME UP FOR SALE. I CAN ATTEST TO THIS FACT AS THIS IS THE FIRST ONE I'VE EVER OFFERED ANYWHERE..... ON OR OFF OF EBAY! SO I'M HAPPY TO MAKE THIS ONE AVAILABLE. THIS EXAMPLE HAS BEEN STORED IN IT'S ORIGINAL SPECIALLY MARKED SHIPPING BOX FOR THE LAST 40+ YEARS. IT REMAINS IN GREAT NEAR MINT- CONDITION WITH ONLY A TAD BIT OF CORNER TIP EDGE WEAR FROM HANDLING AND MOVING. NO CREASES OR TEARS. THE BACK HAS NEVER BEEN PULLED OUT TO ASSEMBLE/SNAP IN THE EASEL BACK STAND UP PORTION AND THAT IS WHY I'M SHOWING IT ALL FLAT AS ISSUED. THE OUTER BOX HAS SPECIAL PRINT ALONG WITH THE GEFFEN LOGO, ETC. ONE SMALL TEAR IN THAT BOX. THE BOX IS 39 1/2" X 26 2/4". INTERESTINGLY, THE BOX CALLS IT A ' MINI STAND UP '!
