A charming doggerel poem about the joys of hanging out in Greenwich Village. It mentions two famous early 20th century hot spots by name:
"I am happy when I am at those Greenwich Village nightsThe Pirates Den that now and then the law indictsThe Purple Pup where every cup of tea delightsAnd the studio teas, where you dress as you please."
Handwritten in ink on a small 3"x5" card. Let's take a moment to appreciate the irony that it was scrawled on the reverse of an unused chur...ch membership card.
What a fabulous artifact of New York City bohemian life in the early 20th century!
Unfortunately the author is lost to time - I found this in a random box lot of ephemera, mostly dated from the 1900s-1920s. I would love to know who wrote this and what their life was like!
