For sale is a rare pre-owned Swiss Universal Geneve Polarouter 'bumper' automatic men's watch, likely produced 1954 or 1955.
First generation of the famous Gerald Genta-designed Polarouter/Polerouter family of watches.
300mic gold cap on stainless steel case and stainless 'case back. 20214-4 series. Clean Swiss Universal Geneve 138SS 'bumper' automatic movement, 17j. Serviced 2019.
Likely original black-golden dual tone crosshair dial, gracefully aged and in good cond...ition considering its age. Slightly faded, with light patina and a few small age spots, but well preserved overall.
Hands, golden tension ring with thin hourly indices and replacement plexi crystal in excellent shape. Gold plated, somewhat worn crown; hard to say whether this could be original to the watch.
300mic yellow gold plated stainless steel case and stainless steel case back with a number of light surface scratches throughout. Light nick on the gold cap of the lower left lug.
The case back may have been polished a while ago; its serial number appears to be 20214-4 168261...
Bezel and lugs in very good cosmetic condition.

This Polarouter is winding, setting and running well and keeping excellent vintage time(ca. -7sec / day, based on recent 24hr time check).
It comes on a little-used black leather strap with neutral gold plated buckle.
Well sized at ca. 35mm in diameter excl. crown, and ca. 43mm lug-to-lug.Lug width 20mm.
Please note that most vintage watches are smaller than contemporary models.
Men's watches marketed in the 50s and 60s regularly featured diameter sizes between 31mm and 35mm, while 36mm -38mm diameters were considered 'oversize' or 'jumbo'.
