Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:4266919 |
Offered here is a rare Culmicrinus missouriensis crinoid from the St. Louis Limestone Formation from a new locality in the Martin-Marietta Cloverdale Quarry in Cloverdale, Indiana, Mississippian in age. The rare crinoid crown measures 1 1/4” long with 1 1/4” of stem and has been cleaned free of matrix. The front side is beautiful, but the back side does have some blast damage. That’s why it was prepared free of matrix. The stem has been glued in a couple spots. This specimen was... self collected last year. I was lucky enough to have a friend that worked at the quarry and would get me in on weekends, but has gone back to coal mining for the year. Why do I list the location? Company policy doesn’t allow any type of collecting in the quarry and the limestone lens where this was found has been blasted and crushed. It will be years before they get to that level again. The crinoid was meticulously prepared under a microscope using only 40 psi and screened dolomite. At this point, this is the only one I’m parting with.
