"Uncle Ned's School" John Rogers' Civil War time statue. 20" overall height. Depicting an illegal, casual "school" for teaching slave children to read and write -- which practice was outlawed in many Southern states at the time. This scarce example retains much of its original 1866 finish (see photos). No breaks or repairs that we see. A very much sought-after example of Rogers' excellent artistic works of social commentary.
