Cypraea Aurantium: an exceptional golden cowrie
Original Description:
Cypraea Aurantium #3) 87.9mm,  Gmelin 1791,  SUPER CHOICE RARE GOLDEN SPECIMEN.  I still own the first Golden Cowrie I ever got.  It was a birthday present... My mom, Ruth Fair, saw an ad in the paper, (Honolulu) someone was advertising they had shells under their house---dig them out and you could have them for a small price.  Well, she checked it out.  Almost immediately she saw,  buried upside down in the dirt,  the unmistakable whit...e base of a golden cowrie.  She carefully dug it up---but---since Golden Cowries at the time sold for around $500, (about $8, 000 in today's money), she thought it was either just the base of one and nothing else, or that she wouldn't be able to afford it, us belonging to undeserving-poor like we did.  Anyhow, she dug it up, found it was dirt encrusted but whole, so she took the shell to the lady running the sale and asked fearfully, How much? The lady answered, Twenty-five cents?  That's shell collecting... it cleaned up great, too.  Anyhow, the golden cowrie for sale here shines with fantastic color, a slightly corded body, (thin growth lines on the cords) and a dorsum that has a some occasional wear on the gloss, but those are blemishes that you can only see if you look for them, the shell itself with its magnificent color displays very well indeed!  Found off of Palawan Island,  Philippines, it was collected in 80 feet of water in a coral cave, and as the photos show, it is a fabulous golden beauty that will look wonderful on your shelf!
Combined shipping.  If you buy more than one item from us you will save on the shipping.  There are two ways you can request combined shipping.  The easiest is to just click the button on the top right of your order that says, "REQUEST TOTAL."  Of course, if you are wondering WHY you don't see that button, let me give you a little tip---that button is available only on the "desktop" version of eBay!  If there is no button to push, it means you are doing what 99% of the people shopping on eBay are doing, you're using your cell phone.  Why eBay thinks no one uses their phone to shop with is a mystery that has no answer, but maybe we can change that.  If you get a chance, leave feedback with eBay requesting that they put that button BACK on their mobile app.  That's right, back.  It used to be there, but for some reason eBay recently removed it, (probably removed by some old guy at eBay who still thinks Lincoln is president, huh.)  Anyhow, to request combined shipping, open up the desktop version of eBay on your laptop, and voila, there it is!Second way to get combined shipping is for you to pay the total, and when we receive your order we will, in a flash, issue a refund for any excess shipping charges.  I've used both methods myself while shopping on eBay, and so far everyone I've bought from has been great!  But then that makes perfect sense if you think about it.  After all, they want me to come back!  And I want you to come back too, so I WON'T be overcharging you for shipping...
As for normal disclaimers and such... I have tried my best to make sure the photos are accurate color-wise, but as everyone knows, color is a... well, it's tough.  Between my phone changing the color due to the color of the shell, the background, the flash floods AND it changing when I post it on eBay, and then knowing that your phone or laptop is going to do weird things to it color-wise too, well, let's just say, I tried my best, and I hope you will think so too when you hold your new beauty in your hands for the first time.Second, like everyone else selling on eBay, I live and die by the feedback you leave, (please leave me fives!) so, with that in mind, please remember that I am anxiously sitting by my phone in case someone needs me to help them with something.  Being retired, I have to admit to having more time on my hands than is good for me---so the gorgeous one says---so if you have a problem,  let me know and I will happily tell my wife that I'm busy and get back to you pronto...You know, it is a genuine mystery to me that my wife even knows that I have free time on my hands!  I go to great lengths to look like I'm staying busy all the time, why I even let the lawn mower run out of gas three times today (as I took a little nap in the hammock, ) so why does she think I'm doing nothing? Huh...Anyhow, if you have read this far, you have my apologies and heartfelt wishes from those of us at Island Shells for happy collecting.  Enjoy your new treasures and remember, home is where your collection is!I
