Antique Regency period circa 1830 Rare and Superb Grecian Arch / Heavens Gate Pocket Watch Stand fashioned in Ormolu Bronze with the base to the pocket watch stand being finished in Black Enamel painted metal set to the centre of the floor with a solid silver beaded cartouche.In Very good condition for old age the Watch Stand Grecian Arch is beautifully detailed with a closed gallery Grecian Key relief to either side of the Arch apex and reeded spine set to the apex centre with a hand ...turned bronze Funerary Urn finial counter matched with an opposing pocket watch display hook in the Gaff style finished in ormolu.The Pillars of the arch feature turned gilded shoulders, graduated columns and turned base terminals flush to the floor of the stand.The side to the stand is finished with a hand decorated banded pattern perpetual skirt gallery finishing the piece nicely.The underside to the stand has had its cladding removed revealing the black enamel finished white metal base plate with the tell-tale signs of original manufacture much after small Bronze works of the period with each of the Grecian columns being side pinned in place as a watch maker might pin the palette of a fine fusee verge pocket watch together.the Watch display stands 16.5 cm tall and has a base diameter of 8.8 cm.the columns to the stand will allow a pocket watch of up 5.3 cm to hang within its arch from the hook.The first photograph shows the Stand displaying a 19th Century Fusee pocket watch quite happily that has a case width of 4.8 cm, .A Fantastic example of a Pocket watch stand of the period, this fine piece would have cost a fortune during the period and no doubt has displayed a very fine or some very fine pocket watches in its time (perhaps a handsome Benjamin grey Verge pocket watch eh?).Certainly in the upper echelons of the finest pocket watch stands available of the period, . weight : 207 grams # please note the Pocket watch in first photograph is for display purposes only and is not included with the sale of the pocket watch stand.
