Description: An original Stevengraph "Dick Turpin's Last Ride on Bonnie Black Bess" . It shows the infamous highwayman who, hoping to evade capture for a robbery in the South rode to York (note the signpost on the right of the picture) in record time to establish an alibi since no one could have covered the distance in that time. It failed and he was subsequently executed in York. The scene is of Mr.Turpin jumping the tollgate (no time to stop to pay the toll) and any angry toll ...man remonstrating. It has been remounted and framed in a modern frame. The printing on the mount is modern (it is very well done but wrong)- the silk weaving is original - the mount is not. The weaving dates from 1879 - one of the earliest Stevengraph designs.
Size: The frame size is 9 x 6 inches.
Condition: The colours are extremely bright and well preserved. There are a few creases and some tiny age spots on the silk. The mount is well presented but is modern. There is nothing of interest on the back.
