1944 Varga Pinup Calendar Published by Esquire. The 1944 calendar was produced and copyrighted in 1943. It has all twelve months with stunning artwork present. Varga(s) followed up George Petty as the Pin Up artist with Esquire magazine in 1941. His 'Varga-girls' soon became famous and his work was inspirational for nose-art on many planes and flightjackets. On the Calendars he is known as Varga. He was born Alberto Vargas in Peru. Esquire convinced ...him to drop the s from his name. His drawings of women appeared everywhere from jigsaw puzzles, magazines and of course calendars. He later worked for Playboy.
