Starr was among the first saddle and horse bandits, and the last of the real badmen. He practiced his trade off and on for 30 years. He reportedly committed more daring crimes than the James-Younger, Dalton-Doolin gangs combine...d.
He was born near Fort Gibson, Indian Territory and buried in Dewey, OK in Feb 1921. He was educated in the Indian schools. Starr was in and out of prisons, and toward the end of his career was convinced he could make more money in motion pictures vs robbing banks and thus made this movie to prove crime doesn't pay.
The $15, 000 he was supposed to receive for his starring in his own movie was never received by him. He later went on to robbing banks and was shot and subsequently died. On his death bed, he still boasted that he had robbed more banks than anyone in America.
This movie is a part of Oklahoma history.
