Fabulous woman's costume from area of Piestany, Slovakia, includes bonnet, blouse, vest, open skirt, apron, waist sash. In excellent condition except for the vest.Bonnet: Cotton, embroidered, bobbin-lace with metallic thread front trim.Blouse: Cotton with very richly embroidered sleeves, bobbin-lace sleeve inserts with metallic thread, bobbin-lace trim on sleeve ends. Some small scattered age spots as is typical for antique textiles, but nothing noticeable. 19 1/2 inch neck, approx. 50... inch chest (difficult to measure).Vest: Made of brocade fabric and ribbon with metallic trim, lined with a cotton? backing. The vest shows its age and use: the brocade has worn away on the ribbon lining the front and neck openings, and the front clasps have lost their rhinestones. The back brocade is heavily split (see last photo), as often happens with older weighted brocades (due to metallic salts used in their making). But the lining is strong and the vest still holds up to being worn, and is still beautiful. 36 inch chest, 28 inch waist, 17 inches tall with added 3 inches of backing fabric at the bottom to tuck into the skirt.Open skirt and apron: Black cotton? with profuse embroidery and bobbin-lace trim, waist ties. The skirt with lace along the bottom covers the back and is open in front, while the apron with lace on three sides covers the front opening. Accommodates any waist size, 30 inches top to bottom hem. Waistband: Made of brocade ribbons, fastens with hooks and eyes over the skirt/apron. 30 inch waist.
